Some Donald Trump supporters are clamoring for the real estate mogul to name former Republican presidential candidate Pat Buchanan as his running mate.
“Pat Buchanan is a Washington insider who has served in the White House before,” said commentator Ann Coulter, who has been a vocal Trump supporter.
“Buchanan shares the same conservative values as Trump,” said talk show host Michael Savage.
Like Trump, Buchanan has been a strident critic of Latino immigration to the United States claiming immigrants from the Third World are bringing the U.S. down.
Buchanan has also expressed nostalgia for the segregated 1950s and has appeared on white supremacist radio show, “The Political Cesspool.” Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., was also a guest on the same show. And show host, James Edwards, was given press credential to attend a Trump rally.
“‘Angry white male’ is now an acceptable slur in culture and politics. So it is that people of that derided ethnicity, race, and gender see in Donald Trump someone who unapologetically berates and mocks the elites who have dispossessed them, and who despise them,” said Buchanan. “Is it any surprise that militant anti-government groups attract white males? Is it so surprising that the Donald today, like Jess Willard a century ago, is seen by millions as ‘The Great White Hope?’”
