Donald Trump supporters are continuing to attack the parents of Capt. Humayun Kahn, a Muslim immigrant who was killed defending his troops in Iraq.
Theodore Shoebat, an Evangelical author who has also called for the death of gays and women who have abortions, downplayed Kahn’s sacrifice.
“Kahn may have died for the United States, but unfortunately, he’s burning in Hell now, because he’s a Muslim,” said Shoebat in a YouTube video.
Trump supporters have kept a stream of hate directed at the Kahn family ever since they launched a broadside against Trump’s bigotry at the Democratic National Convention.
Trump operative Roger Stone spread rumors that Khizr Khan, Humayun’s father, was an agent for the Muslim Brotherhood and claimed Capt. Kahn was a terrorist. He later rescinded these accusations.
But others have kept up the invective. Sandy Rios, a Christian radio show host, still doubted the Khans, according to Right Wing Watch.
“Mr. Khan, if you’re an American first, then distinguish yourself and condemn Islamists, condemn the Muslim Brotherhood, then we will listen to you, and stop waving the Constitution. As far as I can tell, Islam, truly, supporters of Islam and the Quran, cannot embrace the Constitution,” she said.
Unfortunately, these smears seemed to have worked because several Trump supporters were still repeating them.
Mother Jones recently interviewed several Trump supporters. One of them, Jeff Urban, said Khizr Khan was affiliated with the “Islamic Brotherhood” and had an agenda. However, Trump’s attacks on the Khans have been widely condemned by service men and some Republicans including Sen. John McCain.
