Herman Cain has come to the defense of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump who’s receiving widespread criticism for his attempt to politicize the death of Nykea Aldridge. Aldridge, NBA star Dwayne Wade’s cousin, was killed in Chicago while pushing her stroller.
Trump tweeted, “Dwyane Wade’s cousin was just shot and killed walking her baby in Chicago. Just what I have been saying. African-Americans will VOTE TRUMP!”
Trump was widely condemned on Twitter. Actor Don Cheadle called him a “POS.”
But Cain said Trump was merely trying to show how violence was affecting the black community, according to The Conservative Chronicle.
“Mr. Trump has been trying to bring awareness to the fact that violence has destroyed many black communities,” he said. “He has promised to end this when he becomes president. He wants to make black communities safe. Donald Trump will end up saving more lives than Harriet Tubman.”
Herman Cain is a member of the Thomas Jefferson group, a group of black conservatives who are trying to win over African American voters. Trump has nicknamed the group “the Toms.”
