Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump continues to fend off accusations that his supporters are violent racists.
“Everyone’s saying my supporters are bad people. ‘Crooked Hillary’ called them ‘a basket of deplorables,’” said Trump in an interview with WEHW. “They’re good, gentle people. They just want to make America great again. ”
However, a Trump supporter in Asheville, N.C., was captured choking and slapping protesters. He was later arrested by local police.
Trump rallies have been the scenes of several violent incidents with protesters being pushed around and called racial epithets.
It seem some prominent Republicans have had enough of Trump’s antics. According to BuzzFeed, former secretary of state Gen. Colin Powell blasted Trump in an email. Powell called Trump a “racist” and a “national disgrace.”
Powell also bashed Trump’s birther crusade and choice of former FOX News CEO Roger Ailes as an adviser.
“To go on and call him an idiot just emboldens him,” said Powell.
