Right-wing rock star Ted Nugent has leapt to the defense of Betsy DeVos, President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for secretary of education.

DeVos’ raised eyebrows during her confirmation hearing when she said some schools needed to have firearms on hand to ward off dangerous animals.

“I would imagine there’s probably a gun in the school to protect from potential grizzlies,” said DeVos, in response to a question from Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy about guns in schools. DeVos is the scion of a wealthy Michigan family and has never worked as a teacher or served on a public school board.

Nugent said that he would like to see all teachers armed with M16 rifles to fight off attackers.

“You never know when one of those ISIS or Black Lives Matters sons of bitches is going to try something,” said Nugent in an interview with the Patriot Media Sentinel.

This echoes a comment made by Rep Louis Gohmert after the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012.

‘I wish to God she (the principal) had had an M-4 [carbine rifle] in her office locked up so when she heard gunfire, she pulls it out and she didn’t have to lunge heroically with nothing in her hands, but she takes him out, takes his head off before he (Adam Lanza) kills those precious kids,” said Gohmert said on “Fox News Sunday.”
