Former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara has come under fire from the right-wing media after he said it was likely that President Donald Trump had broken the law.
Appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” Bharara told George Stephanopoulos, “There is absolutely evidence to begin a case. No one knows right now whether there is a provable case of obstruction… [but] there’s no basis to say there’s no obstruction.”
Bharara, a federal prosecutor in New York, was fired by Trump, after he promised to keep him on. Many political analysts believe he was terminated because he was getting too close to Trump’s ties to Russia.
However, members of the right-wing media have pushed back by attacking Bharara’s ethnicity.
“Where did they get this guy?” said National White Alliance President Brian Blanc. “From a 7-11? Who is he to question the president of the United States? I’d like to see his green card.” Bharara is a naturalized American citizen.
Other posters on white supremacist site, Stormfront, were equally insulting. A poster called OCChick accused Bharara of being a Muslim, even though his parents are Sikh and Hindu.
“He’s a sharia agent who wants to help the Muslims take over the country,” said OCChick.
