Conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh has blamed the recent shooting of several congressmen on hip hop music — of all things. The congressmen were practicing for a baseball game.
“The shooter was a liberal, a Bernie Sanders supporter, so he probably was heavily into rap music,” said Limbaugh on his radio show. “Liberals love to show they’re down with black culture. The shooter probably thought he was getting back at the man.”
However, the shooter, James T. Hodgkinson, was a 66-year-old white man with a long history of domestic violence. One of his foster daughters committed suicide by lighting herself on fire. The other was removed from his home because of violence. Hodgkinson was also a gun enthusiast who used neighborhood trees for target practice.
Several Republicans have blamed liberals for Hodgkinson’s violent act, but President Donald Trump frequently invoked his crowds to attack liberals and the media during his campaign. Several black people who protested Trump rallies were assaulted.
Also, Ben Jacobs, a Guardian reporter, was recently body slammed by Montana Rep. Greg Gianforte.
According to CNN, Iowa Rep. Steve King, who has often made white supremacist statements, blamed former President Barack Obama for the violence.
“I do want to put some of this at the feet of Barack Obama,” said King in an interview with on WHO Iowa radio. “He contributed mightily to dividing us. He focused on our differences rather than our things that unify us. And this is some of the fruits of that labor.”
