Donald Trump’s presidency might be a 24-hour nightmare of gaffes, corruption and collusion, but some Evangelical Christians think there is a divine plan at hand.

Franklin Graham, son of famed evangelist Billy Graham, said God allowed Trump to become president so he could pave the way for Mike Pence, a “true man of God.”

“Donald Trump is like John the Baptist who laid the way for Jesus,” said Graham in an interview with the Patriot Media Sentinel. “Even if the stanic Democrats impeach Trump, we still get Pence. So it’s a win-win for the faith community.”

Vice President Mike Pence is a notorious fundamentalist Christian who once said condoms were too modern. As Indiana governor, he passed a law that allowed businesses to discriminate against gay people.

However, this view is shared by Steve Turley, a conservative Christian academic and author, according to Right Wing Watch. He said Trump’s presidency was part of a rising wave of “Christian civilization.”

“We can have the morally upstanding evangelical who also understands the globalist/nationalist dialectic as the governing political paradigm of our age,” said Turley. “Yes, I understand and I believe we’re going to see that person. I most certainly believe we’re already seeing that person emerge in the form of Mike Pence. And so that’s what’s going to proceed from this trajectory. But Donald Trump has been an indispensable part of this trajectory.”
