Conservatives are running to the defense of President Donald Trump, who returned to flood-ravaged Houston because he bungled the first trip.

During the first trip to the scene of Hurricane Harvey, Trump showed up with first lady Melania Trump, who wore high heels. But he was blasted by the media who reported that he never actually met any flood victims.

The second time Trump made a great show of kissing black children and being pictured alongside black people, including Dr. Ben Carson, secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“He went there. He said comforting things,” said CNN White House correspondent Sara Murray, according to Raw Story.

FOX News commentator Jesse Watters said the residents should be happy to see the president.

“I’m sure the president showed up with a truck full of fried chicken and watermelon, so they should be happy for a while,” said Watters on FOX News.

Watters is known for making racially incendiary remarks. Last year he did a report on Chinatown that was so offensive he was forced to make an on-air apology.

More recently he said, “There is no racism in football. All the black student athletes are dominating and they’re all going to play in the NFL, the good ones, and they’re making a million dollars.”
