The recent hurricanes afflicting Florida and Texas have activated America’s lunatic fringe. Televangelist Pat Robertson has joined other preachers in laying the blame at the feet of gays.
“The hurricanes are God’s punishment for teaching anal sex in schools,” said Robertson on “The 700 Club.”
Robertson wasn’t the only person to claim sodomy caused the hurricanes.
According to Right Wing Watch, televangelist and survivalist Jim Bakker said the Key West hurricane was punishment for its gay-friendly culture.
“This flood is from God, it’s a judgment on America,” said Bakker. “These kinds of things don’t happen by accident.”
Right-wing talk show host Rush Limbaugh took things even further by telling his followers to ignore Hurricane Irma. He claimed it was a liberal conspiracy to get people to buy more emergency supplies.
“So with hurricane tracking and hurricane forecasting, I’ve been able to stop where I think they might be playing games because it’s in the interest of the left to have destructive hurricanes because then they can blame it on climate change, which they can desperately continue trying to sell,” said Limbaugh, according to Media Matters.
His comments were condemned by NBC weatherman Al Roker, who told people to ignore Limbaugh.
“Do not listen to @rushlimbaugh when he says #Irma is not a dangerous #storm and is hype. He is putting people’s lives at risk,” said Roker in a post on Twitter.
