Judge Roy Moore, who won a GOP runoff to contest for the Alabama Senate seat, said that he would support a law that made homosexual activity a capital crime.
In an interview with World Net Daily Moore said, “Sodomy is a crime against nature and God. We need to nip that in the bud. If we kill a few homosexuals, they’ll get the message.”
According to the Washington Post, Moore has also compared homosexuality to bestiality and said it was “an inherent evil against which children must be protected.”
Moore, who has been described the “American Taliban,” is a far-right conservative who was ejected from the Alabama judiciary because he refused to remove a monument to the 10 commandments. Moore said he would like to return the country to Biblical values.
In the past he said that 9/11 was God’s judgment on the United States, President Barack Obama was a Muslim and Muslim Rep. Keith Ellison should not be allowed to serve in Congress.
The women of “The View” compared him to the infamous Westboro Baptist Church.
“He passed one test, which is one test too many,” said cast member Sara Haines. “He wants to legislate religion. And one thing we talk a lot about on this show is the beauty of this country is we’re all so different and believe different things. The second you start to legislate one religion — you can’t legislate religion and have a democracy.”
The Washington Post compared him to Alabama’s segregationist Gov. George Wallace.
“Moore’s comments — and the support for them — show just how uninterested some Americans are in leaving some hallmarks of traditionalism in the past,” said the Post. “It was just 30 years ago that former segregationist George Wallace left the Alabama governor’s mansion after the last of his four nonconsecutive terms in office.”
