In spite of the fact that President Donald Trump has picked a fight with NFL players and threatened to destroy North Korea while Puerto Rico suffers from a hurricane, he still has his staunch supporters. According to an Occidental Public Polling survey, 57 percent of Trump supporters say he’s the best president of their lifetime.
“I’m just glad we have a president that doesn’t take crap from nobody,” said Raylene Clark of Phoenix, Ariz. “He’s the best president I’ve seen and I’m 80.”
Seventy-five percent of Trump supporters also think he could beat President Barack Obama in a fight.
“Obama was a college professor and a community organizer. Trump worked in the construction industry. He’s a man’s man,” said Bill Clark of Huntsville, Ala.
This attitude was echoed by a Trump supporter who was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey on last week’s “60 Minutes.”
“I love it. Every day I love him more and more. Every single day. I still don’t like his attacks, his Twitter attacks, if you will, on other politicians. I don’t think that’s appropriate. But, at the same time, his actions speak louder than words. And I love what he’s doing to this country. Love it,” said Tom, a Trump supporter.
However, a Quinnipiac University poll showed most Americans do not approve of Trump’s performance. According to Quinnipiac, 56 percent of the 1,412 people surveyed said “Trump is not fit to serve as president.” Fifty-one percent also said they were embarrassed to have Trump as president.
“There is no upside. With an approval rating frozen in the mid-thirties, his character and judgment questioned, President Donald Trump must confront the harsh fact that the majority of American voters feel he is simply unfit to serve in the highest office in the land,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.
