Televangelist Pat Robertson has accused the “liberal media” of destroying Alabama Senate candidate Judge Roy Moore.
A few months ago, an investigation by the Washington Post revealed several women who claimed Moore had propositioned them when they were under the age of 18.
However, Robertson saw something more sinister at work.
“The liberal media has been embedded with Satan,” said Robertson on “The 700 Club.” “They will do anything to stop a good Christian man from succeeding.”
Robertson also accused the media of “serving Satan.”
Although Alabama is a red state full of Bible-thumping churchgoers, they didn’t seem to be too concerned about the child molestation accusations dogging Moore.
“I have to believe that most of it is a lie,” said an Alabama voter named Charlotte, according to MSNBC. “There could be some truth, but Roy Moore has denied all of it. I would like for him to speak more about it and tell us. If he’s guilty of some of what he’s alleged he’s done, then certainly he’s wrong and it should never have happened. However, he still denies it.”
She also added: “Now, I do believe people change. And I have to believe — the last 40 years, I’ve followed his career and I do believe that he’s been good in many ways. He hasn’t been the leader of this state that a lot of people want but I think he stands by his Christian principles.”
Ted Crockett, a spokesperson for Moore, recently appeared on CNN with Jake Tapper to talk up the candidate’s Christian values.
“The reason people support Judge Moore in the state of Alabama is because he’s a biblically-based custom law of the Bible. The Mosaic English law. Homosexuality is a sin in the biblical sense. That is where Roy Moore is in the state of Alabama,” said Crockett.
He later added that Moore “probably” thought that homosexuality should be illegal.
