Televangelist Pat Robertson is urging other Evangelical Christians to support presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. On his show “The 700 Club,” Robertson compared Trump to the Biblical figure Joshua.
“Joshua brought down the walls of Jericho, and Donald Trump can end the war on Christianity,” said Robertson. “He will make Christianity great again. Unlike Obama, and his liberal allies, who promote secularism, witchcraft and Islam.”
Trump has already said that when he is president he will force store employees to say “Merry Christmas” instead of “Happy Holidays.”
Trump’s campaign is riddled with problems and he lags behind Hillary Clinton in fundraising, but he’s still getting strong support from Evangelicals. Many Evangelicals, such as David Barton, a radio show host, controversial author and frequent Glenn Beck guest, are convinced that Christians have to support Trump because he has been ordained by God.
“This may not be our preferred candidate, but that doesn’t mean it may not be God’s candidate to do something that we don’t see,” said Barton on his radio show “Wallbuilders.” We may look back in a few years and say, ‘Wow, he really did some things that none of us expected.’ So I am fully open to the possibility that because we did everything as Christians that we could, we can’t complain about our turnout, we can’t complain about our quality of candidates, and this is what the people chose; I’m a whole lot more open to the fact that God may have something going here that is much bigger than what we think or see.”
