Televangelist Jim Bakker has explained why many Evangelical Christians support Donald Trump, a thrice-married, former casino owner, who appeared in a pornographic movie. In an interview with WEHW radio, Bakker said a Trump victory was necessary for Jesus Christ to return.
“The Bible says that in order for the Lord to return, the word must be spread to all corners of the earth, that includes the Middle East,” said Bakker. “Trump will promote the War on Terror and that will help Christianity spread around the world. The Middle East is currently controlled by the Satanic Muslim religion.”
Bakker’s words might sound outrageous, but during the early years of the War on Terror, launched by President George W. Bush, an Evangelical Christian, some members of his administration saw it as a religious war, Christianity versus Islam. Former Sec. of Defense Donald Rumsfeld published Bible verses on war briefing notes and some gun makers printed religious messages on weapons used by American troops.
According to Right Wing Watch, Christian activist Lance Wallnau says God will use Trump to take out his enemies. In an appearance on Bakker’s TV show, he compared Trump to the biblical figure Samson.
“Samson was anointed by God. God can even use somebody with a checkered past, who has an anointing, in order to take out His enemies,” said Wallnau. “The last act that Samson did was he took down the entire Philistine structure. So the church really needs to stop fighting over what maybe Trump did a decade ago and start recognizing that there’s an anointing on him to deal with the Philistines and the Philistines are destroying the American system.”
