President Donald Trump may have had the worst first week in the history of the presidency, but his supporters don’t seem to think so. According to an Occidental Polling Policy survey, 89 percent of Trump supporters think he’s doing just fine.
“I think he’s doing a great job so far,” said Merle Weathers, a Trump supporter from Knoxville, Tenn. “He’s bringing the jobs back, building the wall and banning Muslims, all things he promised. Now if he could just do something about the coloreds …”
However, Trump’s first week as president has been marked by fights with the media, possibly illegal executive orders, the invention of a new term for lies (alternative facts) and leaks. According to the Washington Post, the leaks from the Trump White House portray him as a “clueless child.”
“Time and again, the image of Trump pushed by his ‘aides’ is one of a clueless child — someone who acts on impulse, disregarding the better advice of people who know better. We know he needs to be managed or else he will say and do stupid things, the message seems to be. We’re working on it,” said Chris Cillizza.
But like Weathers, it seems many Trump supporters are rejecting the fact-based news media, and sticking to right-wing outlets like Breitbart and the Drudge Report.
According to the Guardian, residents of Macomb County, Mich. think Trump is doing a great job so far.
“I think he’s doing a phenomenal job,” said Neil Redmond. Redmond also said he hadn’t seen any negative stories about Trump.
“Papers? I’ve no idea what they are talking about – I don’t see them. If it don’t put a dime in my pocket, I don’t worry about it,” he said.
