President Donald Trump’s army of fanatical followers have rallied to his side and attacked Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.,) who feuded with the president over the weekend.
In a New York Times interview, Corker accused Trump of treating the White House “like a reality show” and was setting the nation “on the path to World War III.” The thin-skinned Trump responded by saying Corker begged for his endorsement and didn’t have the guts to run. (This was a lie.)
Corker clapped back by tweeting: “It’s a shame the White House has become an adult day care center. Someone obviously missed their shift this morning.”
According to the New York Times, he also said, “I don’t know why the president tweets out things that are not true. You know he does it, everyone knows he does it, but he does.”
This inflamed Trump’s troll army who rained abuse on Corker.
“How dare Corker insult the God Emperor,” said Trump2020, a member of The Donald Reddit group. “Bob Corker sounds gay.”
Posters on Breitbart called Corker a “RINO” and a “secret Muslim.”
The “FOX and Friends” crew also joined in attacking Corker, who is chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
“Whatever Bob Corker thought, he could have done it personally and privately,” said co-host Brian Kilmeade. “The president takes his calls, they go golfing together. So to go public with these critiques are just — I think it’s self-serving.”
According to the New York Times, Corker also said that Trump didn’t appreciate the magnitude of the presidency.
“I don’t think he appreciates that when the president of the United States speaks and says the things that he does, the impact that it has around the world, especially in the region that he’s addressing,” he said. “And so, yeah, it’s concerning to me.”
Corker’s criticism of Trump shows that cracks might be appearing in the GOP. Last week, Sec. of State Rex Tillerson refused to deny that he called Trump a “moron.”
